First Press: Studio-Made Mugs (Behind the Scenes)
Share
From Sketch to Sip
Every mug begins as a spark — a rough sketch on a page, a moment of humor, or an idea jotted down beside the press. That’s where the process starts: with imagination and a pencil line. From there, the design is cleaned up, refined, and scaled to match the exact size of the blank. We print one master, test it under heat, tweak the color or placement, and repeat until it feels just right. Only then does it move into the press rotation, made fresh as each order comes in.
🔥 The Press Dance
Making a mug is part craft, part choreography — what we lovingly call “the press dance.”
-
Prep and lint-roll the blank
-
Align the print by hand (taped edges, no air bubbles)
-
Press under steady heat and pressure
-
Cool, inspect, and, if needed, re-press
-
Finish with a gentle rinse and dry
Each step is a small act of patience. The press hums, the timer ticks, and for a few quiet minutes, it’s just heat, color, and focus.
💚 Why We Do It This Way
We keep production intentionally small because that’s where quality lives. Small runs mean fewer wasted materials, more consistent results, and room to check every mug by hand before it ships. If it wouldn’t live proudly on our own shelf, it doesn’t leave the forge.
Every mug that leaves the studio carries a bit of that TurtleCraft persistence — careful, intentional, and built to bring calm into someone’s daily ritual.
🧽 Care Tips
Hand-wash when possible, and avoid abrasive pads on the print. The mugs are microwave- and dishwasher-safe, but a little extra care helps keep the artwork bright and the finish strong.
